Jail Records Are Now Available Online

Searching for jail records in Cattaraugus County is an important matter. In some states, criminal offenders are required to be served jail time right after their convictions. This service is also done for juvenile offenders. However, not in New York State. A criminal conviction and a jail sentence are the only two requirements that an offender needs to fulfill before being released from jail.

People who are wanted by the police for any reason are normally sent to one of the New York City Correction facilities. These are called Supervised Community Treatment Centers (SCTs). There, they will be given food and education, but are not subjected to interviews or background checks. This could be a convenient option for a person who is afraid to undergo an interview, or to give his or her full name, as some SCTs will ask just one name.

But the fact that a person can be randomly housed in a supervisory facility does not mean he or she is safe from being re-arrested. That is why New York State’s highest court, the Supreme Court, has mandated that all jail records be made public. This is also the case for people convicted of crimes in other states. The same is true for sex offenders. Their jail records must also be made public.

Although people are entitled to legal representation, sometimes they are denied this right. Those accused of a crime, or of attempting to flee from arrest cannot avail themselves of the right to legal representation. And that is why access to public jail records has been made easier through the Freedom of Information Act. This act was implemented by the state to ensure access to public records, and to protect the rights of the individual.

These records have been made available to the public either free of charge, or for a fee. Those who are willing to pay for this information can use a commercial information service. However, those who want more information may search the records themselves. If one is able to do this successfully, it is possible to get a number of records. These may include criminal records, inmate records, warrant for arrest, and other jail records.

Jail records are now widely used by companies to weed out potential employees and to check on potential tenants. This makes it possible for employers to weed out those who may cause problems within the company, and also those who may be dangerous. And with the ease of the internet, these services are now accessible to the general public. This makes it possible for people to gain access to the public records whenever they want.
