Jail Records Are Important

Searching for information about the arrest and prosecution records of someone is now possible with the accession of the Indiana State Police’s arrest records database. In 2021, the State of Indiana became one of the first states to make its arrest records available to the public through the Internet. In the past, records were only available in the local court houses of each county where the suspect in question may have committed a crime. Now anyone can search for this type of information.

Accessing these criminal records was initially restricted to law officials and judicial offices. However, in 2021, the State of Indiana began permitting anyone who needs to obtain records to do so through the Internet. The law allows any individual to access the same information provided to them through the traditional method of submitting requests through mail or hand-delivery. Individuals who need to obtain jail records in Indiana need only present their name and birth date to the concerned office for verification. If all the information that is needed is not found, then an application for an electronic access will be made.

Criminal background checks are now possible even for those who may not be able to find their jail records in the traditional way. This is because Indiana State Police’s database contains millions of criminal records of people who were convicted or who are currently under investigation for criminal offenses. This database, however, is considered to be a sensitive matter as certain agencies of the government release some of the information pertaining to people who are convicted of grave felonies. The Indiana State Police maintains an extensive website which provides free access to public records of this nature.

Some state courts also keep record of the arrest and prosecution of a person. However, this information is considered to be confidential and restricted from public scrutiny. Certain employers in the United States are allowed to check a prospective employee’s jail records in order to ensure that they are not likely to be involved in criminal activities. However, employers cannot use such checks to screen out candidates who have clean criminal histories.

For those who are not interested in the conventional manner of obtaining information on a person’s jail records, there is another option. This option includes conducting online searches. There are many websites on the internet which allow users to conduct online searches of various types of data which are kept by various governmental and non-governmental organizations. While some sites require users to pay a token fee, there are also other sites which provide access to various public databases at no cost. Through online search sites, one can find the jail records of a person within a few seconds.

Jail records are essentially important for two reasons. Firstly, it helps law enforcement authorities if they want to arrest a person who has been accused of some serious crimes. Secondly, access to jail records enables an individual to check out if his partner is trustworthy. Thus, jail records can be used for protecting one’s family members and oneself as well.
