How to Do a Criminal Records Search

We all have the need to search for public records, whether it’s to find out if someone has a criminal record, to check if a new neighbor is a criminal or even to keep an eye on our babysitter and make sure she doesn’t end up hurting anyone’s family. It isn’t a bad idea to be aware of what is contained within public records and how you can access those records. If you want to search for people’s public records, you will have to go through a couple of different sets of records before you can find everything that you need, so let’s talk about how you do that.

There are different types of searches that you can perform, and some are more popular than others. For instance, one popular way to perform a search on a person’s criminal history is to do a search through the local newspaper. Most newspapers publish any court cases, and if you do a quick search, you should be able to find some of the information that you need. This can be a great way to find out a persons history if you have only minor questions and don’t know where else to turn.

The problem with this method is that newspapers usually only publish information for a week or two at a time. When a criminal case was resolved or the charges against a person were dropped, the paper usually won’t mention it. To get other information, you will have to search online. The easiest way to do a search for public records is to use a search engine like Yahoo or Google. Enter the person’s name and hit search and you should be able to find some basic information.

You might not be able to find much information at all in these searches, but it’s worth a try. One of the better sources of warrant information is the website for the local courthouse. The website will tell you if there is a warrant out for the person’s arrest. It will also tell you the reasons for the warrant and who they were issued to. You can then check to see if you are the target of the warrant. If you are, you may be able to clear yourself of any legal responsibility to that person.

Another source is your state or federal criminal records. These will show if a person has a criminal record and what kind of offenses. In addition, they will tell you if the warrant is a lifetime one, which is most cases. If it isn’t, you can run your own background search on that person to see if they have had any brushes with the law.

The easiest way of searching public records is online, using a paid site. Even the best sites will still have you pay a small fee before you can look through the records of a person. The only thing you have to lose by using an online database is the small fee.
